Calling all ‘bhukkads’ to try this cute cozy café in the heart of Dubai that serves not food but nostalgia on a plate!!! Ohh wait!!! For those who don’t know, ‘bhukkad’ means ‘greedy for food’. But I’d like to add ‘greedy for wholesome soul-touching food’!!! And that’s exactly what I experienced on recent visit to The Bhukkad Café. I was invited to experience their High Tea – the desi way 😊 Coupled with live music by an awesome singer (don’t remember his name…sorry), it was an evening to remember. Watch the videos here….
The interiors are quirky, funky and the colourful décor adds to the ambience. The long table laid out in the centre decorated with books, pretty showpieces and delish food with hit Bollywood songs from the 90’s in the background brought out the student in me 😊 I had taken my 8yr old with me and he was like, “Mom, stop singing and grooving, you’re in a restaurant!!!” Ha..ha…ha…
The event was also to show support for The Great India Education Fair that is to take place in various parts of the U.A.E. this November, 2019 (see pic below), showcasing the diverse schools and colleges in various parts of India.
Coming back to the other main topic for the evening…. Food….. I got to try Bombay Aloo Sandwich, Vada Pav in colourful buns, Pani Puri, Nutella Sandwich, Onion Rings, Chicken Pakoras, Spicy Chowmein, and Brownies. The savoury dishes were bang on flavour and really spicy, but in a good way. I relished it but it was too hot for my kiddo and a few other friends. But I guess you can ask them to prepare according to your spice tolerance level.
The finale was their Karak Chai which they pour from colourful tea pots into colourful cutting glasses at the table. Makes for a wonderful photo or video shot!!
