Sandella’s, an American franchise with a growing international presence, is said to be the largest and fastest growing flatbread concept in the world offering delicious wraps, paninis, quesadillas, grilled flatbreads, salads, rice bowls and more, as mentioned in their website. Their flatbreads use only the finest ingredients and there is no addition of any artificial flavours or colours.
I visited their branch in Al Barsha Mall one Friday afternoon for a tasting and review session and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. How could I have not known about this café so close to home….??!!! I’m assuming it is because Barsha Mall is not a place that I frequently visit and I don’t how many people do visit that mall but the restaurant did have a good number of diners when I was there. Sandella’s shares it dining area with a Lebanese restaurant, actually there are two restaurants under the same roof, probably because they are managed by a single company here. But there’s no lack of space or any other problems.
It is a pretty setting and huge windows which overlook the Barsha Pond Park and one can even see the Burj Al Arab in the distance. How’s that for a view?? 😊
The staff were very welcoming and once settled, we ordered fresh Pineapple, Green Apple and Watermelon juices. These are made fresh on order and so it did take some time to prepare. In the meantime, we ordered a Chicken Fajita Pizza, a Shawarma Quesadilla and a California Salad.
The juices were all good and had a fresh taste. Apple does change colour quickly and so did our apple juice but the taste remained the same and so I have no issues. Just a suggestion, maybe they should try to come up with a solution to that 😉 Also, the pineapple juice was too thick, probably because it wasn’t sieved well.
The pizza and the quesadilla were served in their trademark flatbread. The flatbread is soft when hot and tastes great. I’m always biased towards pizzas and the Chicken Fajita Pizza is no different. It was soft, juicy and cheesy, just the way I like it.
It was the first time that I had heard of Shawarma Quesadilla. It’s a good alternative to the other quesadilla’s and was gooey and had a good balance of flavours.
We ordered the California Salad because it had the ‘Eat Healthy, Live Healthy’ logo which is given to certain foods/restaurants by the Dubai Municipality that meet the nutrition criteria. This salad is a beautiful mix of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and grilled Cajun chicken served with a healthy dressing. My hubby, who isn’t naturally inclined to salads, loved this one.
After all this eating and munching, we were so full, but I have always have room for desserts. And boy, am I glad I ordered a slice of their Carrot Cake!!! The cake itself was soft and I loved the melt-in-the-mouth consistency and the carroty taste…. yea, it is a carrot cake, and the carrot flavour is bound to be present, but it wasn’t overpowering or completely void as in some other carrot cakes!! The frosting was perfect too.
Overall, a great place to hangout and devour healthy and freshly baked food. They have many branches all over U.A.E., do check their Zomato for all location details.
