Dabang Reloaded at Dabang Kathi & Curry

Dabang Kathi & Curry is the latest addition to the Indian restaurant scene in Dubai. Having opened its doors just this year, it is located within the food court in Dubai Marina Mall and serves a limited menu consisting of veg. and non-veg. dishes with quirky Bollywood-inspired names. The outlet is decorated with back-lit posters and a live kitchen area and it has a retro feel to it.

As we were waiting for our friends to join us, we sipped on Bombay Masala Chai. It arrived in takeaway cups and was just average. Everything here is served in takeaway plasticware as this is part of the food court.

We then started off with their speciality – kathi rolls, a street food originated in Kolkata, India. I had Bang Bang Paneer Roll while my friends had Park Street Chicken Roll and Salam Bombay Mutton Roll. The paneer kathi roll was definitely bang on in terms of flavour and spices and it is a must try even if you’re a hardcore non-vegetarian. We had opted for the combo, so it was served with fries and a drink. Kathi or Kati is basically skewer roasted kebab rolled in Indian bread and here the kathi roll is made with whole wheat or maida and we can choose either one. The no-veg. kathi rolls were delicious too.

Then we tried their curries – Mother India’s Paneer Masala, Kuldeep’s Special Dal and Namaste Chicken Curry with nan. The paneer curry was tangy and yummy, and the dal was really rich and creamy. Everyone unanimously loved the panner curry. It was the best one!!

I also tried their Mango Lassi and hands down, it was one of the best ones I had till date. Perfectly ripe mangoes, super creamy and thick and yummylicious…. I have to go back for these 😊

We also got to try Biriyani – Guru’s Vegetable Biriyani and Best Exotic Chicken Biriyani. Honestly, both biriyanis lacked flavour and the rice was hard and dry. This was a total letdown.

So when desserts were served, I was quiet cautious. We had Rasmalai Resolutions, Kulfi Bliss and Cloud 9 Carrot Pudding. Love these names and also loved the last two. Kulfi Bliss is not like your usual kulfi, it is very creamy and can be scooped and I couldn’t resist going back for more. The Cloud 9 Carrot Pudding did manage to take me to cloud 9 😊 with its delicious taste and smooth texture. But I didn’t enjoy Rasmalai Resolutions much as it felt a little dry.

Overall, a must visit place to try their kathi rolls, paneer curry, desserts and mango lassi

Thanks to Gaurav and Aarang for being amazing hosts and I’m eagerly waiting for the Dabang Decadence 😊
