Chicken Cottage first opened its doors in the 1990’s in London where its proprietors felt the need for a restaurant that serves fresh and at the same time, halal food unlike other fast food outlets at that time. The Dubai branch started in Dec. 2018 and is located on the ground floor in The Mall, directly opposite Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
This outlet has a reasonably sized indoor dining area featuring the Dubai skyline on one wall and the Chicken Cottage logo on another wall; and caters to dine-in, delivery and take-away customers.
The menu is quite extensive with milkshakes and desserts which are different from what is available at their U.K. branch. The chicken used is 100% antibiotic-free and hormone-free and the nuggets and popcorn prepared here are not processed meat but made from the whole muscle, either breast or thigh portion.
Fried chicken here comes in three types of breading – regular, spicy and crunchy breading and grill chicken comes in three different peri-peri sauce flavours – extra hot, garlic, & lemon and herb. Their chilli sauce is much loved, a must-try instead of ketchup for that extra kick 😊
We ordered a little bit of everything so as to get a feel of the place. Started off with BBQ Wings and Mozzarella Cheese Sticks. The wings were doused in barbecue sauce and I loved the hint of chilli in it. The cheese sticks had the cheese pull which is indicative of how good it is. Dip it in chilli sauce to enhance the flavour.
The coolest thing about this place is that the dispensers for the sauces are shaped like taps 😊
We ordered two pieces of Fried Chicken, one with regular breading and one with spicy breading. The spicy one was the winner for me. The regular one wasn’t bad, just that I prefer some spice in my life!!
Next up was Chicken Fillet Burger with a crunchy breaded chicken fillet. It was massive and took two of us to finish it off. The chicken is very crunchy, true to its name, and isn’t hot but has some good flavours. We also tried the Grilled Chicken Wrap. It was ok and the portion size was huge.
My favourite dish was the Grilled Chicken with Per-Peri Extra Hot sauce. It was cooked well and very spicy due to the sauce, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. If you’re not fond of hot sauces, you can opt for either garlic or lemon and herb sauce.
For drinks, we had a Lotus Milkshake and a Lemon and Mint Juice from Fit Fresh. The milkshake was really delicious and I finished it all by myself 😊
And lastly for dessert, we had Chocolate Brownie with Ice-Cream. Hot brownie topped with ice-cream in any weather is a delight.
