Every day there is a new restaurant or hotel cropping up in this every bustling city called Dubai. The S Hotel in Barsha South is one such hotel having opened its doors just less than a year back. It’s located in the Dubai Science Park neighbourhood, about a stone’s throw from AL Barsha City Centre. This hotel houses two restaurants, and two days back I visited their Fusion Restaurant, which as the name suggests is a fusion of cuisines. I was there to try their Executive (Business) Lunch, which I was amazed to learn, is available for only AED 39/-. Ain’t that a bargain!!
The Fusion Restaurant is located on the 1st floor and is an All-Day dine-in restaurant. Very spacious with lots of natural light, it is a food photographer’s paradise.
The Business Lunch consists of 1 salad or starter, 1 main and a dessert, and one has plenty of options to choose from. Vegetarians are not going to be disappointed, nor will those who are very conscious of their health. The Chef was very generous, and my lunch partner and I got to try several dishes from the menu.
We started off with salads and I said it in plural, ‘coz we were served four… yes, four… different types of salads. Well, I’m not a salad person and when it arrived, I was just thinking in my head … how are we even going to finish this!! (‘Coz I don’t like wasting food, even if it’s just plain old salad.) But how wrong was I!! The salads were so fresh as if the leaves and vegetables had just been plucked from the garden. The salads were Fattoush, Traditional Greek Salad, Kale & Beetroot Salad and another one which had tomatoes, beans, cheese (forgot its name). This one was really amazing. So was the Greek Salad. The other two were good too.
Also tried Breaded Fish Fingers and Hari Bari Tikki from the starter menu. Fish fingers tasted fresh and not like the frozen ones. Hari Bari Tikki is a vegetarian version of the kebab, for those of you who don’t know. Topped with cashew nut and served with green chutney and sweet chili sauce, it was a delight.
Summer Coolers in the form of Virgin Mojito, Muscle Up, Lemon ‘n’ Mint and Virgin Watermelon Margherita made its way to our table. Though at first glance, Muscle Up looked like beetroot in a glass, it tasted yummy with all the apple, carrot and lime in it. The Virgin Watermelon Margherita was not that great in terms of taste but in terms of presentation, it looked very pretty. The other two lemon-based drinks were decent too.
Since I know that you’ll all be confused on what to choose from the mains, I tried a few dishes, only to help you 😊 Penne Pasta in Arrabbiata Sauce was warm with balanced flavours. The tomato-based sauce wasn’t very tangy, and I enjoyed it well. Chicken Tikka Masala with freshly made rotis was something to die for. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it was simply delicious. From the simple presentation, to the colour of the dish, to its taste…. It was a perfect blend of flavours. And the simple roti only enhanced the taste without taking away its thunder.
Another dish we tried was Grilled Fish with Garlic Butter Sauce, Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Veggies. The fish was just melting in the mouth and matched well with the garlic butter sauce. How can we not eat biriyani if it’s on the menu, right!!! Chicken Biriyani topped with fried onions and fresh coriander leaves and accompanied by raita was a delish combo. The masala was appetizing though I felt the chicken pieces could have been softer and juicier.
To finish off, our plates were cleared, and we were served Raspberry Cheesecake, Double Chocolate Cake and Ice-creams. The chocolate cake was a bit dry though it was well-balanced in terms of the chocolate flavour and sweetness. The cheesecake was my favourite even when my friend was of the opinion that the base should have been sturdier. Ice-cream platter consisted of vanilla, mango and strawberry scoops topped with cashewnuts, cut fruits and syrup. The ice-creams were all made in-house. A lil birdie told me that they also have gulab jamun and umm ali on their dessert menu. Can’t wait to try those. It is their dedicated pastry chef who’s behind all these glorious desserts. Can’t wait to meet you either 😊
So, all you office junkies, try out this restaurant on your next quest for lunch options. It’s reasonably priced but without compromising on taste, quality and quantity. Ohh… did I mention about the serving sizes. The portions are appropriate. The quantity you see in these pics are the serving size for 1 person. Also, from tomorrow, every Friday, they will be hosting a Friday Brunch from 12pm. I’m soo excited. It’s only AED 69/- pp for the brunch along with pool access and discount on spa services. Check out their website for complete list of offers.
