Mughlai Buffet at Al Anwar, Holiday Inn Bur Dubai

Holiday Inn Bur Dubai is quite a popular name amongst the old Dubai dwellers and in the lobby is Anwar Restaurant, a multi-cuisine eatery with themed buffets on various days of the week. Thursday nights are Mughlai Nights, aptly named Farman-e-Mughal, a cuisine that celebrates Indian spices.

The buffet is spread all around the restaurant interwoven with various Indian spices in bags and plates, to create that Indian feel.

The Cold Section is extensive and has both Indian and continental salads and flavoured lassis. There’s also a separate area showcasing the different types of pappads. The Starters are various kebabs and grills that are brought fresh from the grill to the table once seated. I tried chicken, mutton, fish and veg. grills and found them delicious, especially the chicken drumstick that had a filling (forgot its name).

The Mains are arranged at the centre of the restaurant and included Sunheri Jhinga (prawns), Ghost Nalli Nihari (mutton), Murg Badami Korma (chicken), Khumani ke Kofte (stuffed cottage cheese), Dal Makhani and Mughlai Chicken Dum Biryani. My favs were the prawns, chicken and dal makhani, though the chicken could have been a little more tender. The stuffed cottage cheese was average. All these dishes were really rich and some really flavourful. The parathas are prepared live at the Veg. Mughlai Paratha counter that resembled a street food stall.

My favourite part of any buffet is Desserts and when its Indian desserts, then I just have to try everything. Much to my happiness and my hubby’s agony, this section had so many varieties of Indian sweets. From various types of pedas to stuffed and not stuffed gulab jamuns, from shahi tukadas to laddus, from kheer to ras malai, and even a live Jalebi section. and to top it off, a Kulfiwala who comes to your table with his Kulfi cart. I tried a scoop of Malai Kulfi topped with rabdi and some garnishes. Told you I’m a hard-core dessert lover 😊

Overall, head over here to try their Mughlai Buffet Night every Thursday and you won’t be disappointed. Do not miss their desserts. Loved the service and a special thank you to Mr. Bharathi Raja, the Executive Chef, and his whole team for a wonderful evening.
