Have you tried Chowking, the Filipino Favourite?

This Chinese cuisine restaurant that originated in the Philippines is very popular amongst the Filipinos here in UAE and when I got to know that there is a branch close to my home that has been in operation for many years, I had to give it a try. Chowking is located on the ground floor of building 20 in Discovery Gardens, with ample free parking, I visited on a Saturday afternoon with my family. It is compact with lots of natural lighting and can seat upto 30-35 people. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

We started off with their famous drinks Milk Tea with black pearls and Black Gulaman, which is also a sweet drink with big chunks of black jelly. Both got over in a jiffy and tells a lot on how it tasted. But it was a tough task to get the jellies through the straw.

The Dimsum Platter with a mix of veg and non-veg. starters and the classic sweet and spicy sauce was a delight. From the Asian Grills, I ordered a skewer each of Oriental Chicken Barbecue, Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Bulgogi and Spicy Thai Chicken which came with spicy and coconut-based sauces that are all manufactured in their central kitchen in Jebel Ali. The grills were delish and a definitely worth a try.

Another dish that I would highly recommend is the Prawn Thai Red Curry. It was very spicy, but I absolutely loved it. Have it with plain steamed rice and you’re good to go. Nasi Goreng is eveyone’s favourite and mine too and this was bliss. Try it to believe me.

The finale was the infamous Halo Halo. Loved the mix of colourful flavoured jellies, ube, various fruits, slices of caramel custard, cheese, crushed ice and ice-cream. Have you tried it?

Overall, a wonderful experience with good food and great service.
