Authentic Hyderabadi Cuisine at Deccan Garden

Deccan Garden is a café and a restaurant located in the heart of Dubai, quite near Al Ghurair Centre. As you enter this eatery, you’ll find the café first and the restaurant behind it. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well and as everyone knows, outdoor dining area is perfect for this weather. It’s super clean and the tables are squeaky white. The staff are pleasant and very helpful.

I visited during lunch time with my friend and I was surprised to see many locals and even some foreigners dining here. We ordered a Deccan Special Mutton Biriyani, Chicken Achari, Mutton Rogan Josh, Mixed Veg. Curry and Naan, and fresh Pomegranate Juice.

The Mutton Biriyani is definitely a must-try here. The meat is well marinated and cooked to perfection. It’s very soft, juicy and does not have the gamey-smell which I usually find in other restaurant. Gravy and raita were a great accompaniment.

Chicken Achari is another must must-try. It’s not overly tangy, and the spiciness is just right. It went very well with the garlic naan.

Mutton Rogan Josh was a little watery but was flavoured well and the meat was cooked perfectly. The veg. curry was just ok.

The naans too were soft and tasty. I didn’t get to try their kebabs and shawarma as it’s served only from evening onwards.

Those who know me know that I love my sweets. How much ever full I am, I always have room for desserts. But, unfortunately, they had run out on all desserts except for Kubbani ka Meetha. It was my first time trying this Hyderabadi speciality, and I wouldn’t complain. It looks simple and is prepared in a simple way too; tastes pretty much ok too; but I definitely want to try their other sweets.

I didn’t have many expectations when I arrived but just half-way through my meal, I was sure that I had found a tasty, reliable, and very reasonably priced restaurant serving delicious Hyderabadi food in Dubai. By reasonable, I mean extremely pocket-friendly. Breakfast items are only AED 3/- – AED 10/-; the prices of curries are a max. of AED 15/- and you’ll also get chai for just a dirham (AED 1/-). How cool is that!!!! But the only problem is that it’s way too far from my home in Jebel Ali. I hope they start another branch close by…soon… 😊
