Soy Launches Lunch Buffet

Located in Ibn Battuta Mall, Soy, is a casual dining restaurant serving delicious Asian cuisine. I had been wanting to visit this place for quite some time but got the chance only when they launched their lunch buffet. It was a Thursday when I tried this and it’s reasonably priced at AED 79/-. The buffet was a lavish spread with lots of tasty dishes on the menu.

I started off with the Sweet Corn Chicken Soup which as the name suggests is sweet but is warm and yummy too. Try it…. it’s perfect for this weather!! I’m not a salad person but the salads here, looked too tempting. I loved the Mandarin Chicken Salad, as it was crunchy, and the chicken was juicy and tender. The Baby Corn & Mushroom with Ginger, Soy and Sesame salad looked gorgeous too but wasn’t as flavourful as it seemed.

I then rushed to try the steaming hot dimsums – Lo Han Veg. Dumplings & Pan-fried Chicken Kothe. Both were warm, juicy and delicious especially with their spicy sauce. Don’t forget to ask for it.

Next up was starters. Ohh yea…these were only the pre-starters 😊 My favourite was the Crispy Tofu in Honey Chilli Sauce & the Magic Chilli Chicken in Five Spices. They had typical Asian flavours and I couldn’t believe that the tofu dish was indeed tofu. I usually don’t like tofu but this had me going back for more. The Veg. Spring Rolls weren’t that great.

The main course had veg., fish, chicken & beef dishes to be paired with noodles, fried rice and Jasmine rice. My favourites were the Diced Chicken in Black Pepper Sauce and the Veg. Dumplings in Manchurian Sauce. They were spicy and tantalizing.

The Red Snapper Fillet in Sweet and Sour Sauce was pretty decent, but the Stir-fried Beef with Leeks and Scallions wasn’t to my liking only because the beef had a gamey taste and that’s quiet off-putting.

The Veg. Fried Rice is a must try too.

For desserts, we had Banoffee Jar, Chocolate Brownie and an Exotic Fruit Platter. The Banoffee Jar was really delicious and left me scrapping every last bit from it. The Chocolate Brownie had the perfect balance of chocolate and sweetness and the Exotic Fruit Platter was indeed exotic. Various cuts of fruits were placed in a huge boat that not only added to the ambience of the buffet but also urged us to dig into it.

Overall, Soy is a wonderful Asian restaurant with beautiful outdoor and indoor seating and serving delectable drool-worthy dishes.
